Our Ethos & FAQs
🌿 Our Ethos & FAQs
Welcome to The Barn Temple - a sacred space nestled on the border of North Wales and Chester, lovingly created to support deep rest, healing, remembrance, and reconnection.
We believe in the power of slowing down.
Of circling together.
Of honouring the seasons of the earth and the seasons of your own becoming.
At The Barn Temple, everything we offer is rooted in authenticity, care, and the understanding that healing isn’t linear. Whether you join us for yoga, ceremony, sound healing, or sacred space holding, you are met exactly as you are - and gently invited home to yourself.
💫 Frequently Asked Questions
📍 Where are you located?
We are based at The Meadows, Church Road, Dodleston, CH4 9NG — just outside Chester, and close to the North Wales border.
As you pull into The Meadows, bear right and park in the main car park. Walk to the front entrance of the building (The Meadows), and once inside, turn right, go down the corridor, through the door, and up the stairs. Our temple space is at the top.
🧘♀️ What kind of offerings do you provide?
We offer a range of holistic and heart-led practices, including:
Weekly yoga classes (Yin, Reflective Flow, Vinyasa-inspired, and Womb Yoga)
Monthly and seasonal sound baths
Women’s circles, ceremonies, and retreats
Womb healing sessions (massage, Reiki, Closing of the Bones)
Private 1:1 healing sessions
Workshops in herbalism, breathwork, and somatics
Mother & daughter and mother & son rites of passage days
Special seasonal events, retreats, and collaborations
🌸 Is The Barn Temple open to all?
This is something I have returned to again and again, and there isn’t a single simple answer.
Men are warmly welcome at our regular weekly sound bath sessions, as these are shared spaces of rest, regulation, and nervous system support that are open to everyone.
However, our movement-based practices, such as yoga, are held exclusively for women. This is to offer women a dedicated space where they can explore what is present for them without self-consciousness, without the social conditioning that can often arise in mixed-gender environments, and with a deeper sense of safety, softness, and internal freedom. It allows a different quality of attention to emerge - one that is inward-facing and less shaped by how we are being seen.
Similarly, massage and other 1:1 therapeutic sessions are also exclusively offered to women. For those seeking similar work, I highly recommend the offerings of Renew Therapies Chester, who are based within the same premises as The Temple and offer deeply supportive bodywork for all genders.
We recognise this may feel disappointing for some, and this is something that has been considered carefully over time. After listening closely to the women within this space, this feels most aligned with the quality of experience we are committed to holding within the Temple - one of safety, freedom, and inward presence for those who choose to step into it.
🧺 What should I bring with me?
For yoga or sound healing: bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. We provide mats, bolsters, blankets, cushions, and everything else you may need - but you’re welcome to bring your own comforts too.
For ceremonies or circles, please check the event listing for any specific items to bring (e.g., journal, item for the altar, food to share, etc.).
🕊️ Can I arrive late?
Please aim to arrive 10–15 minutes before your session begins. For the integrity of the space and the comfort of all attending, late arrivals may not be permitted once we’ve begun. Please message Laurie on 07778 062230 if you're delayed.
💗 What if I can't afford the full price?
We believe healing should be accessible. Many of our offerings include a concession option. Just select the reduced rate from the drop-down menu when booking - no explanation needed.
If the concession option still feels out of reach, please contact Laurie privately.
🔄 What’s your cancellation policy?
Cancellations under 48 hours before an event/session are non-refundable.
Tickets are non-transferable to future events.
For retreats and day retreats, part of the fee is a non-refundable deposit.
Please ensure you’re able to attend before booking.
All 1:1 sessions require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for rescheduling. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the appointment are non-refundable. Bookings can be transferred or rescheduled within 3 months of the original appointment date, after which they will be forfeited.
We honour that life and the body can be unpredictable, and will always do our best to accommodate where possible. However, as appointments are limited and spaces are held exclusively, we ask that these boundaries are respected.
We’re a small family-run business, and your respect for our time, energy, and boundaries means the world to us.
🌕 What makes The Barn Temple different?
The Barn Temple is more than a studio - it is a living, breathing sanctuary. Created with love, lived in with reverence, and held as a place of return.
We weave together the ancient and the everyday - the wild and the gentle , to help you remember your wholeness. Our offerings are trauma-informed, soul-rooted, and created for those who are ready to meet themselves with tenderness.
